- Dr. Jann Leppien
- I am an associate professor at the University of Great Falls where I teach course work in curriculum and instruction, gifted education, assessment and learning, educational research, and methods in social sciences. Additionally, I teach curriculum courses and thinking skills courses online and in the Three Summers Program at the University of Connecticut. Before joining the faculty at UGF, I worked as a research assistant for The National Research Center on the Gifted and Talented (NRC/GT). I have been a classroom teacher, enrichment specialist, and coordinator of a gifted education program in Montana. I am the co-author of, The Multiple Menu Model: A Practical Guide for Developing Differentiated Curriculum, and The Parallel Curriculum: A Design to Develop High Potential and Challenge High-Ability Students. I conduct workshops nationally and internationally for teachers in the areas of assessment, differentiated instruction, curriculum design and assessment, thinking skills, and program development. I serve on the boards of the National Association for Gifted Children and the Association for the Education of Gifted Underachieving Students (AEGUS).

I think this is a little different than how I would have seen myself teaching originally, but I liked the different uses of technology. I found the problem-solving aspect of the newscast to be especially interesting.
ReplyDeleteI think this does match my way of teaching. Whether teachers like it or not, technology will be the main source of everything before long. It is necessary to make sure the students know how to use it and are well-versed in different technological forms.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the teacher Kelvin Chun that we should let the majority of the students use technology, because it will help them prepare for the real world. I also agree that students should learn problem solving by hands on, because it will teach them not to panic but find a solution for the problem. I like this video, because it has some great points, and it shows what I would like my teaching style to be when it comes to technology.
ReplyDeleteIn my elementary experience it was as Mr. Chun described, "only the good students got to use technology." I hope to incorporate technology in similar ways as this teacher has and let students become familiar with it and solve problems on their own, as they would outside of the school environment. It is so important not to further hinder "not as good" students by not allowing technological access in the classroom. I love the idea of presenting a student led broadcast every morning as he has shown - what a fun way to get even very young students practicing their technology skills!
